CUPERTINO, CALIFORNIA / RankWire.AI / – Apple has unveiled the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max with new camera hardware, faster processing and longer battery life. The models introduce a 48-megapixel Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. They also feature the A20 Pro processor and a redesigned vapor chamber for improved sustained performance. Apple has reduced the size of the Dynamic Island while expanding its functions. Preorders begin September 12, and first-wave retail sales start September 18.

The new Main camera uses six laser-cut blades to control aperture across four available settings. Users can adjust aperture, shutter speed and white balance directly inside the Camera app. The interface also adds a histogram for monitoring exposure while framing a scene. Apple has upgraded Photographic Styles with new texture and grain controls. Video users can apply Cinematic effects after recording footage at up to 60 frames per second. Time-lapse recording now supports 4K video with Dolby Vision HDR.

Another camera feature, called Apple Reference Image, focuses on checking the authenticity of photographs. Reference mode captures signed sensor data alongside a photo taken with the Main camera. Private Cloud Compute processes that data into a reference image for comparison inside the Photos app. Users can then compare it with the main image to identify visible changes. Apple also plans SynthID support later in 2026. Greg Joswiak, Apple’s worldwide marketing chief, highlighted camera, performance, battery and intelligence improvements at the launch.

Variable aperture adds new control for iPhone photography

The A20 Pro chip uses a 2-nanometer manufacturing process and includes a six-core CPU and seven-core GPU. Apple says the GPU delivers up to 40% faster performance than the A19 Pro. The chip also carries a Dual 16-core Neural Engine with 32 total cores. A redesigned thermal system places the processor closer to a larger vapor chamber. The chamber offers three times more surface area than the previous generation. Apple says the design enables up to 40% higher sustained performance.

Battery gains are strongest on eSIM-only versions, which use space previously reserved for a physical SIM tray. The iPhone 18 Pro offers up to 36 hours of video playback under Apple’s testing. The iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches up to 45 hours. Compatible wired charging can take the Pro to 50% in about 15 minutes. eSIM-only models will launch in Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the UAE, among other supported markets.

iOS 27 brings Siri AI and expanded Apple Intelligence

Both iPhone 18 Pro models run iOS 27 and support the latest Apple Intelligence features. Siri AI enters beta on September 14 for supported devices configured in English. French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish support follows in October. Siri AI can use personal context from messages, email and photos when responding to requests. It can also act on information displayed on the screen. Supported cloud tasks use Private Cloud Compute, while other Apple Intelligence functions run directly on the device.

The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 in the United States, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Buyers can select 256GB, 512GB, 1TB or 2TB of storage. Apple offers both phones in black, silver, glacier and burgundy. Preorders open at 5 a.m. Pacific Time on September 12. Sales begin September 18 across more than 65 countries and regions. Another 20 markets join the rollout on September 25, extending availability of Apple’s new Pro lineup.
